A Snowgrrl tester recently had the opportunity to try out the Lara parka from Nils‘ 2015-2016 lineup. The bronze and pewter Lara jacket was tested while skiing in unseasonably warm 50 degree temperatures in Deer Valley, Utah and the frigid, subzero weather of Chicago. The Lara performed equally well in both settings, demonstrating the high performance fabric’s range and breathability.
The metallic Lara is both sleek on the slopes and sophisticated enough for city streets. This snowgrrl tester received ooohs and ahhs the first day she wore it in Chicago. The Lara is stylishly cut short to show off the wearer’s curves, ensuring that she is “sexy on the slopes.” It also comes with many great technical features.
The fleece-lined chin guard provides comfort by preventing irritation from the zipper. Other thoughtful features include an internal pocket for keeping your valuables extra secure, an upper arm pocket for your ski pass or lip balm, and two side pockets large enough to hold a cell phone. The powder skirt and removable hood offer options in changing weather conditions. However, this snowgrrl’s favorite feature is the nylon thumb thong which holds the parka’s sleeves and other garments in place while providing additional warmth underneath gloves.
Snowgrrl thinks this feature should be included with all higher end parkas, but sadly it is not. The parka is waterproof 10,000mm and breathable 10,000g. The NILS Lara parka meets Snowgrrl’s baseline for an excellent product: it delivers a great balance of technical features and fashion so you can hit the slopes with confidence.
